Summer Immersion Program
2007 —
"I
liked the variety of the program, i.e. preparing for market,
spending time in the library (this was
very good), games, songs, Francoise (Giselle's French friend), the
visit to Genevieve's (the goat lady) farm.
The
library book was very good–everyone was enthused about the library
book report assignment
and explaining even in rudimentary French was fun!
...The
atmosphere was very inclusive and the small number created a cozy
group. Very enjoyable. Monflanquin is a great location for this
since townspeople are so friendly and try to engage us in
conversation in a very accepting manner. The book and handouts were
good – I appreciated the handouts, crossword puzzles, etc."
"The
entire experience of learning French in the beautiful bastide
village of Monflanquin was wonderful! It was especially helpful to
learn basic terms we could use to communicate in the village such as
colors, menu items, numbers, days of the week, and time of day.
Constructing the questions in French each day helped us concentrate
on learning the language, rather than relying on English..."
"I
liked the variety of games and approaches you took to acquaint us
with the French. The book was elementary enough to introduce me to
French without being intimidating.
Going
to the library allowed me to see that reading and learning in
another language must be taken step by step. It was a real jump
start to continuing learning French..."
